The sports analyst was born as Craig J. Button on 3 January 1963 in Rochester, New York to parents, Jack and Bridget Button. His father was an executive with the Rochester Americans, while mother was the secretary to long-time Toronto Maple Leafs. He has a brother, Tod was an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals and is currently the Director of Scouting with the Calgary Flames.
Craig went to Riverdale High School in Pierrefonds, Quebec in 1980. Then, he attended the Concordia University, Montreal, to complete his Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1987.

The 56-year old has a soaring net worth of $3 million as a sportscaster. His first NHL management career began in 1988 with the Minnesota North Stars. Besides, he became the Director of Scouting for Dallas Stars from 1992 to 1998 and the Director of Player Personnel for Dallas Stars between 1998 to 2000.
In the same year, he got the fortune to be the Vice President and General Manager of the Calgary Flames in 2000. However, he could not continue the job after his contract did not get renewed.
